Look Good When You Don’t Feel So Great

Invited for a party or getting to work after a weekend. But you have a cold and look as bad as you feel— itchy, irritated eyes; swollen eyelids at half mast; a bright red nose; and dry, cracked lips.  But you can’t stay in bed.  Commitments and responsibilities require you to get up and get going.

I bet we’ve all been here at some point in time.. So what can you do? How do you go about getting out of your comfy bed for the commitments you’ve made.

Once you’re up, it’s a question of bath or shower.  A bath can be wonderfully soothing, but if time is short and you must shower, make it comfortably hot and steamy to help clear your sinuses.  Let the water run over your neck and shoulders to limber you up further.

After a bath or shower, apply your favourite moisturising lotion as a protection against the drying effects of winter weather and central heating.  While you’re at it, don’t forget to apply a light film of protective lotion on your face.

Good eye drops will relieve irritated eyes and help red eyes look less aggravated.  Cold compresses made from tea bags steeped in ice-cold water are good for swollen eyelids and puffiness under your eyes.

Go light on breakfast but don’t skip it, even if you’re not hungry. You need it for energy.  For something light, try juice and toast.

Don’t forget to brush your teeth — fresh breath makes you feel fresh all over. Even if you don’t feel like it, flash yourself a smile in the bathroom mirror; even a practice grin can perk up your mood.

If you’re really feeling sick, you probably won’t want to wear makeup and perhaps ought to stay home altogether. But if you absolutely must go out, makeup is next and so essential to looking and feeling the best you can.

Now that you’re relatively ready to get dressed, it time for some fashion therapy.  It’s important to think of clothes power as a way of boosting your spirit.  Now is not the time to wear your sloppiest, thrown-together outfit simply because you don’t feel good.  Instead, wear a favourite, comfortable yet sharp looking outfit — one you often get compliments on.

Yes, you can cough or sneeze into your elbow, but better yet, take a nice handkerchief with you and use that to cover your nose and mouth if you cough or sneeze.  Bring an ample supply of lotion-treated tissues for blowing your nose and throw them away immediately after using.

Most of all, think positively.Face the day with a smile and if you’ve followed these tips, people may not even know that you have a cold.

Fatty acids in coconut oil contain anti microbial properties, which have a soothing affect on bacteria, candida, or parasites that cause poor digestion.

A recent study by the Garvan Institute of Medical Research found that coconut oil protects against insulin resistance, reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes. Coconut oil helps in controlling blood sugar, and improves the secretion of insulin. It also promotes the effective utilization of blood glucose, thereby preventing and treating diabetes.

Coconut oil is also good for the immune system. It strengthens the immune system because it contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid which have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. Lauric acid contains the highest concentration of MCFA fatty acids, approximately 75 per cent. The body turn this fat into monolaurin which is claimed to help heal viruses such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, helicobacter pylori and candida.

Boosts metabolic system

A study reported in the Journal of Nutrition found that coconut oil boosts metabolism. Researchers found that participants who consumed two tablespoons of coconut oil per day burned more kilojoules than those who consumed less. A speedy metabolism helps boost the body’s immune system and keep weight off.

Hydrates skin and reduces fine lines

Coconut oil is an excellent massage oil for the skin as well. It acts as an effective moisturizer on all types of skin, including dry skin. It keeps the skin’s connective tissues strong, which prevents sagging and wrinkles. Apply coconut oil directly to your skin to soften the appearance of fine lines or use it daily on your face and body for a healthy glow. Be sure you use virgin coconut oil with no additives.

Relieves stress

Coconut oil is very soothing and hence it helps in removing stress. Applying coconut oil to the head, followed by a gentle massage, helps to eliminate mental fatigue.

When applied to infected areas, coconut oil forms a layer that protects the infected body part from external dust, air, fungi, bacteria and viruses. Connecting with Yourself!

We all look towards leading a happy and satisfying life. While doing so, it’s important to actively pursue your goals, for which you will need to learn to trust your own intuitions. The following tips will help you connect better with your intuitive side:

Trust Your Gut Feelings – You may sometimes find that you have the urge to do things for no apparent or obvious reason. These seemingly inexplicable pulls can actually lead you to discover something wonderful. And you feel so happy that you did that.

Take up something, out of the routine – Try doing something additional each week in order to open yourself up to new possibilities. Sometimes, indulge in something bold like a new sport or a dance class which you have been intimidated by. Or simple things like catch up over a coffee with an old friend, you haven’t seen for years.

Be open to making new connections – It’s a good idea to habitually connect with new people who cross your path. So, if you just have a gut feeling that someone is worth talking to, be brave and say the first word for eg. a compliment on an outfit etc is an easy way to initiate.

Don’t Delay Following Your Dreams – Start planning to do all the things you want now, rather than later or never. Make a list of about 8-10 most exciting stuff you would like to do. Start with doing one of them rightaway and strike them off your list. You can work your way to the ones that require more time, effort or money.

Affirmations – Finally, say the most powerful affirmations to yourself on a daily basis to become what you want to be.
