The Must-Have Ethnic Pieces!

Ethnic wear has always lured me towards it time and again, from the summery colorful kurta & patiala to boho chic long skirts , from the oh-so-hyped anarkali to the sarees in rich vibrant colors. They bring a fresh change to the usual western wear dressing. In my attempt to become a desi belle, it’s imperative for me to know what’s in my wardrobe. The eternal question comes back again is how do I create a basic wardrobe for ethnic wear.

But before I brief you on  wardrobe staples for ethnic wear fashion , these tiny little monstrous questions might be jumping in your head. So read on…

Why – Because it’s a fresh twist from the same old fashion

When – Wear it to Work | Evening out | Festivals | Weddings

How – That I will show you now & how – Tadaaaa:)

The prime ingredient of any ethnic wear fashion fix starts with purchase of colorful Kurta. The first buy has to be white, cream, black & maroon Kurta. Then you can keep adding different colors & styles. Always prefer solid colors to prints as it gives you more permutations to style. My favorite shopping place to buy different kurta would be Cottons, FabIndia & Anokhi for the solid colors. Quirky prints can be tried at Biba & Global Desi.

I remember how in my childhood days, we would get Churidar stitched from tailors – yes, all of you might have worn those shabby, loose from the knees or maybe extremely uncomfortable & tight fitted churidars. Since the time knit fabric came into picture life became easier for all. Leggings are a boon & savior from all of the tailoring hassles. Grab them in all the colors possible colors.

They have so much room, I can breathe well and I can move however I want to… What more do I want? They are an alternative option to leggings.

Heavy Dupatta

A colorful dupatta increases the style quotient of any salwar suit. You can always mix and match lot of these dupatta. You could take your pick from heavily embroidered Phulkari or Kutchi work dupatta, a Bandhani or a leheriya , chanderi silk or even an ikat dupatta. Indian textiles gives you a wide array of options to select from.

Long and knee-length ethnic skirts seem to be the flavor of Indian fashion industry now. It’s a middle route for those who don’t want to dress in a western outfit and yet look stylish.

4 things that can make wearing a Saree a Fashion faux pas

sareecoverA saree is an attire that makes you look sexy as well as gorgeous in the most traditional manner. At the same time, it gives you a chance to flaunt your curves like no other outfit. However, there are various things that you need to take care of in order to look your best in this beautiful Indian attire. If not worn properly, the whole essence of dressing up in a saree may get spoiled. Little here or there can turn this elegant drape into a huge disaster.Hence, here are few things that you should avoid when you decide to dazzle in a saree:

Wearing wrong shoesNever wear casual platform heels or wedges with a saree. Also, the flats and slippers should be avoided as they spoil the overall look. However, high heels and stilettos go very well with this gorgeous Indian attire, as they make you look slimmer and taller.

Heavy jewelleryYou need not have an overdose of bling when you wear your favourite saree on any particular occasion. This will surely get you good amount of attention, but certainly not in a right way. Go for delicate jewellery like subtle earrings, thin bracelet, and long sleek chains with small pendants, etc. This will accentuate your looks and also make you look your age, i.e., young!

Misfit blousesDo not get tempted to wear sexy and extremely tight blouses, if they do not go well with your body. If you really want to wear such a blouse, make sure you bring your body in the best shape by following a fitness regime. Similarly, loosely fitted blouses also spoil the overall look.

Flared petticoatFlared petticoat should be avoided as they will make you look fatter and shapeless. Also, they make the task of managing the saree quite difficult. It is therefore, always a better option to go for plain and fitted petticoat.

8 Trends for the Festive Season

The festive season always brings in a tremendous amount of pressure on the urban woman in respect to the uber perfect wardrobe they are expected to have year after year. As we have observed in the last couple of years, staying significantly “on-trend” has become a massive part of our schedule as the age of technology progresses.

The variations in the Festive Trends for 2016 can cater to each and every woman’s personal style.

Defying the customs for the festive palette, we see steady rise among the ivories and the season’s favourite fresh pastels. Having said that, we also have some stand-out bold colors that made their way straight from the runway – for example the color Coffee Maroon or the inevitable Earthy Rust has a steady hold over the festive palette this year.colors

The use of shimmer has also made the festive look “oh-so-blingy”! Designers didn’t shy away from the going all-out bling and we sure couldn’t be happier! Talking about bling, we also see a lot of bejewelled headbands and stone-cut accessories working their charm this festive season.Bling.png

Gotapatti is a definite hero for this year’s festivities! Anita Dongre’s collection gave us a sneak peak into a world where contemporary silhouettes meet the traditional gota.

For a more relaxed look, we encourage you to opt for bohemian inspired tie & dye styles in shades of indigo and rust – as seen on the Ka-Sha runway.

Androgyny has picked up in a large way and we see unconventional pairings on the runway like a straight-cut brocade shirt with exaggerated pop-color lehengas. Blouses have been replaced by cropped shirts and sarees are being paired with exquisite brocade blazers.

Manish Malhotra introduced some elaborate floor-length capes over delicately embroidered sarees, which can be a complete showstopper look for your “grand-diwali” appearance. The cape trend is definitely here to stay when it comes to ethnicwear – we saw a variation of lehengas paired with capes ruling the runways for a number of designers.capes

Florals have become a classic these days and it’s definitely hard to rule it out any season. However, this time we see an influx in the use of vintage inspired botanical-floral motifs that transform you to another era.florals.png

Another trend that you cannot escape is the Cold Shoulder. It’s everywhere, literally!!! Blouses, Cholis, Gowns and Kurtas – give it a special edge with cut-out-shoulders!cold shoulders.png

Top it off with some easy victorian updos with some added floral details, and you’re all set!hairstyles

We are super inspired! Are you?
