5 Trends from Amazon India Fashion Week 16′

The much awaited 5 days of the Amazon India Fashion Week have come to an end and it’s time to sum up our learnings from this year’s Fashion Week.

Fashion week always means a potpourri of art, culture and lifestyle with fashion, of course this year was no different. Amidst all that hustle-bustle of the models, designers and their crews, we managed to summarize this Winter’s top trends so keep reading girlies 🙂

Designers Shantanu & Nikhil did some serious Trendsetting with their range of Vintage Lace apparel. With heavy drapes and silhouettes which spell Romance, this collection was definitely one of our favourites! shantanu-nikhil

This year is majorly about those anti-fit silhouttes and the concept of comfort dressing. We spotted some beautiful styles in Malini Ramani’s collection for Bodice, no defining lines or clinging waists – we loved how the designer played around with straight and flared lines for that relaxed appeal.

Strong, boxy lines inspired from Menswear took over the Runway and how! Fabric selections were made keeping the inspiration in mind hence we see a lot of Menswear suiting fabrics which in-turn shape the concept of Androgynous clothes for women. We loved how Rajesh Pratap Singh nailed the art of the Pantsuit!

With winter comes the inevitable theory of Layering! Pankaj & Nidhi bowled us over with their range of layered ensembles which had this brilliant surface texture that just made it one of the best layered collections!

As the name suggests, this is all about the juxtaposition of Athletic wear with Leisure wear. Designer Sanchita showcased an ath-leisure collection by using sports wear detailing and combining them with traditional silhouettes. It was quite a winner!

The fashion week fun might be over but we are surely left with some impeccable trends that will get us through the Winter of 2016!

Sanjay Garg at AIWF S/S ’16

We cannot get enough those dreamy Mashru calf-length kurtas by Sanjay Garg at Amazon India Fashion Week Spring/Summer ’16.

Mashru fabric with cotton on one side and silk on the other, originated as a way for Muslims to wear silk without breaking sharia law, which prohibits the luxury of wearing silk.

Beautifully crafted, underrated opulence was the call of the day. Garg explored three different variations of it for his latest collection–the gulbadan, with delicate floral motifs; the danedar, in which floats of cotton weft resemble polka dots; and ashrafi, a circular motif reflective of ancient coins, filled with an intricate chevron pattern.

The stand-out pieces were definitely the calf-length kurtas with the cigarette fit pants, detailed with gold tone-on-tone motifs and subtle stripes.

We were bowled over by these pieces, were you?

Nida Mahmood’s “Junglee Billee”, AIWF S/S ’16

A NIFT alumni, Nida Mahmood definitely knows how to do away with the boring and repetitive! We are head over heels in love with her for her off-beat take on couture, plus she is more than just another ordinary designer, she is a writer and an artist too!

For her Spring/Summer ’16 collection, she poetically translated art and architecture onto apparel ‘with a purr and a meow’. The collection is vibrant in its reflection of Bombay of the 1960s, representing the delicate Art Nouveau, where industrial revolution meets Bollywood bloom.

Mahmood adds, “prints create the most important aspect of this collection not just owing to the value of visual impact but from the core of the concept” — the prints will have gentleness of the essence of being a woman but at the same time the strong-mindedness of a strong willed individual.

Mahmood’s colour palette ranges from pale blues, lemons and oranges, green and soft pinks on summer fabrics like georgettes, crêpes, satin, twill, heavy gauge four-way stretch net and neoprene.

The main techniques used in the ‘Junglee Billee’ collection include printing and patchwork, through which Mahmood has tried to play with the concept of transparency and opacity as a strong design language.

Her 25 garments collection really did bowl us over.  And how erratically brilliant are those headgears?

What is your take on this colourful and fun collection?

The Saree Equation

Observing Amazon India Fashion Week S/S ’16 closely, one can easily tell that the Saree has been the Hero this time for most of the collections put out.

Be it the linen goodness draped over loose Crop Top-like Blouses by Anavila Misra or the Khadi ones by Vaishali Shadangule, or even the Jeweled Bikini versions by Resortwear Specialists Shivan & Narresh — the sari is a definitely a style statement now.

It might not be a part of your everyday wardrobe but every now and then, get in touch with your roots and sport a sari.

Plus a saree can be traditional as well as edgy, it all depends on how you style it.

So ladies, take inspiration from these beautiful creations and tell us what would be the perfect saree look for you!!!
