How to get ready for a holi party?

The festival of colors, playfulness, and fun is here. And so are skin and hair troubles if you have not prepared well for it. The chemical in colors have a bad effect on our skin, hair, and body. Thus to really enjoy Holi without any harmful after effects, it is important to prepare yourself.

Oil and Moisturise your skin

The simplest and easiest way to guard your skin against the colors is to apply some oil before your moisturiser. Now that may sound a bit greasy but here is a smart way to apply it. Have your bath before going to play Holi (yes do it, even if you don’t like it), and as you finish your bath before drying up just apply mustard oil or coconut oil all over your wet body. This way, the oil will get in your skin and you will not feel greasy. After applying the oil, dry your body as usual and then use lotion or moisturiser. Be generous with the body lotion as it will prevent the colors and chemicals to get in your skin.

Wash dry and oil your hairs

You can do this the night before Holi or in the morning before stepping out to play colors. While many people avoid washing hair before going to play Holi, thinking it will anyways get dirty. But the pre-dirt mixed with colors damages your hair, making it rougher. Thus, wash and condition your hair well. Also, apply significant amount of coconut oil or olive oil in your hair. This will prevent colors from settling down on your scalp.

Paint the nails

One of the biggest aftermaths of Holi colors is on the nails that often are left in unappealing multi-colored nails. To avoid this, apply double coat of good-quality nail paint on the nails of your hands as well legs. After playing with colors, you can just use the thinner to remove the nail paint and your nails will be as beautiful as they were earlier.

Put some makeup on

Make special efforts to use waterproof makeup so that it stays until you finish celebrating. Apply a layer of waterproof base on your face and neck to ensure that the colours do not stick to the skin. For your lips, slather on a lip guard and a good quality long stay lipstick. If you do not like dark shades, go for a natural shade kiss-proof lip colour.

So, follow these tips to save yourself from the onslaught of Holi colours around. With these tips, get ready to enjoy this Holi with a complete festive spirit!

Look Good When You Don’t Feel So Great

Invited for a party or getting to work after a weekend. But you have a cold and look as bad as you feel— itchy, irritated eyes; swollen eyelids at half mast; a bright red nose; and dry, cracked lips.  But you can’t stay in bed.  Commitments and responsibilities require you to get up and get going.

I bet we’ve all been here at some point in time.. So what can you do? How do you go about getting out of your comfy bed for the commitments you’ve made.

Once you’re up, it’s a question of bath or shower.  A bath can be wonderfully soothing, but if time is short and you must shower, make it comfortably hot and steamy to help clear your sinuses.  Let the water run over your neck and shoulders to limber you up further.

After a bath or shower, apply your favourite moisturising lotion as a protection against the drying effects of winter weather and central heating.  While you’re at it, don’t forget to apply a light film of protective lotion on your face.

Good eye drops will relieve irritated eyes and help red eyes look less aggravated.  Cold compresses made from tea bags steeped in ice-cold water are good for swollen eyelids and puffiness under your eyes.

Go light on breakfast but don’t skip it, even if you’re not hungry. You need it for energy.  For something light, try juice and toast.

Don’t forget to brush your teeth — fresh breath makes you feel fresh all over. Even if you don’t feel like it, flash yourself a smile in the bathroom mirror; even a practice grin can perk up your mood.

If you’re really feeling sick, you probably won’t want to wear makeup and perhaps ought to stay home altogether. But if you absolutely must go out, makeup is next and so essential to looking and feeling the best you can.

Now that you’re relatively ready to get dressed, it time for some fashion therapy.  It’s important to think of clothes power as a way of boosting your spirit.  Now is not the time to wear your sloppiest, thrown-together outfit simply because you don’t feel good.  Instead, wear a favourite, comfortable yet sharp looking outfit — one you often get compliments on.

Yes, you can cough or sneeze into your elbow, but better yet, take a nice handkerchief with you and use that to cover your nose and mouth if you cough or sneeze.  Bring an ample supply of lotion-treated tissues for blowing your nose and throw them away immediately after using.

Most of all, think positively.Face the day with a smile and if you’ve followed these tips, people may not even know that you have a cold.

Sleeping Beauty had the right idea…after all, who doesn’t want to sleep for a hundred years and wake up looking flawless? Though Aurora’s story may be a fairytale, there’s still hope for those of us living in the 21st century. Today, I’m sharing 10 overnight beauty tips that will help you wake up with soft skin, bright eyes, perfect waves and more. The best part? All of the magic happens while you slumber, giving a whole new meaning to the term “beauty sleep.”

1.) Soften

Untitled design
For a pampering overnight treatment, apply Vaseline to the soles of your feet and put on socks before you sleep. The socks help bind the moisture to your feet and you’ll wake up to soft, smooth soles. Now all you need is a pair of strappy heels to show them off…

2.) Smooth

Nail beds looking dry? Apply cuticle cream or oil before you sleep and slip on gloves afterwards. You’ll wake up to healthy, hydrated nail beds. Now you just have to decide on the perfect polish color…

3.) Create waves

Untitled design (1)
To wake up with perfect waves, simply shower at night and style your hair before bed. Allow your strands to air dry until they’re damp, and run some light styling crème through with your fingers. Depending on your hair type and what kind of waves you prefer, you can either sleep in braids or twist your hair into buns. Don’t be afraid to experiment! Bed head has never looked so good.

4.) Moisturize

Ladies with dry skin, take note: A humidifier might just change your skin forever. Turn one on before you sleep (this works best during colder months when the air is drier) and let it work its magic. It instills the air with moisture, which in turn helps plump your skin and keep it hydrated.

5.) Prevent wrinkles

Sleeping on a cotton pillowcase can cause creases on your skin and create wrinkles. Instead, pamper yourself by investing in a silk or satin one. It will lessen the pressure on your skin and help prevent hair breakage.

6.) Whiten teeth

For an easy DIY whitening treatment, try brushing some baking soda to your pearly whites right before bed. Leave the mixture on for 5-6 minutes and make sure to rinse thoroughly afterwards. This is a perfect PM beauty treatment because in the waking hours, you would normally have to wait about 50 minutes before eating or drinking anything afterwards. Just make sure you are only doing this once a week; any more, and the acid in baking soda can wear down your tooth enamel.

7.) Brighten

Untitled design (1) copy
It’s best to apply any face products that have brightening ingredients like retinol and vitamin C in them at night. Sunlight can actually deactivate them and prevent them from working to their fullest potential.

8.) Lengthen lashes

Give your fluttery fringe some loving with a DIY lash lengthening treatment. The secret ingredient? Castor oil. This natural oil is rich in super-hydrating omega-6 fatty acids, which help moisturize your lashes and prevent breakage. Using a clean spoolie, gently brush the castor oil through your lashes each night. In the morning, just rinse with warm water and wash your face as usual. You should notice healthier lashes in just a few weeks!

9.) Repair

Smooth a leave-in conditioner into your locks before you snooze to wake up to shiny, soft strands. Applying it in the evening gives treatment more time to penetrate into your hair cuticles for optimum moisture. (For a great natural alternative, try coconut oil.)

10.) De-puff

Untitled design (2)
If you constantly wake up with puffy, swollen eyes, try this simple switch: Add an extra pillow and sleep on your back. This will allow the fluids around your eyes to drain easier and keep the puffiness to a minimum.  And of course, don’t forget your eye cream. Look for creams that list caffeine as one of the ingredients—it will help keep fluids moving.

Don’t ya wanna look slim in photographs?

An unflattering photo is enough to leave us annoyed, making our confidence levels come crumbling down. Being photogenic can certainly be learned with a few simple tips.

  • To appear thinner on the face, put your tongue on the roof of your mouth while smiling.
  • Stick out your chin slightly, to avoid looking like you have a double chin.
  • If hair is left open, keep one section in front of the shoulder and the other behind the shoulder.
  • If hair is tied, make sure it isn’t too tight, as it will make your face appear larger and severe.
  • Angle your shoulders/body sideways with one foot in front of the other for a trimmer appearance.
  • When wearing shorter sleeves or sleeveless, be aware of the angle that enlarges/widens the arms making it appear unflattering. Try to place the hand on the hip or elsewhere.
  • Dress well with proper lingerie as this sets the foundation.
  • If sitting in photos, cross your legs at the ankles and keep it at the back or at the side.
  • Let no one take pictures from below as it can make your lower looks huge.
