Media coverage: Nail your beach holiday look with the right accessories

Are you gearing up for a summer beach getaway?

A beach destination is a good choice to relax by the waves and take stunning photographs. But as you get all set to take those memorable photos, don’t forget to pay attention to your beach look with the right outfits, standout sunglasses and footwear, suggest experts.

Bhavya Chawla, Chief Stylist at e-commerce portal Voonik, and Kristy De Cunha, Associate Designer of Female Clothing at e-commerce portal Shopotox, share a few tips to accessorize your beach look with panache:

  • Sarongs: Printed sarongs to ombre sarongs, this is definitely one beach essential.

  • Beads and shells: To keep the beach mood on, chuck away your routine neck pieces and choose beads and shells over them. Also if you can get hold of some star fish neck pieces, they could make the perfect sea accessory.

  • Bangles and bracelets: Stock up on them, different colours in metallics or wooden will add more to your beach look.

  • Ankle ties or anklets: While showing off that sexy swimwear, add some punk to it with an anklet or ankle ties.

  • Rock it with a hat: Look for wide-brimmed hats that can provide you extra protection from the blazing sun. On a tropical escape, you can prepare your look up with floppy hats or even smaller ones to complement your delicate sundress. If you wish to spend the evening by the water, then a tan-coloured hat can enhance your overall look.

  • Scarf it up: One of the most versatile items in your beach wardrobe ought to be the scarf. A scarf can accentuate your beachwear look just right. You can use your scarf like a bandana and protect your hair from excess sun damage. You can try out different styles with your plain scarves by turning them into headbands. You can even go retro by casually tying your scarf around your neck and feel like a diva straight out of the 60s.

  • Go for minimal bling: Why deny some bling on your sun-kissed skin? However, accessorize minimally with just a beaded necklace or a long chain. Some semi-precious stones could also look super trendy with your beachwear. You can also pack some bracelets and printed headbands for that boho chic appeal.

  • Slip on the right footwear: Enjoy your beach adventures with foot-friendly sandals such as comfy beach platforms with a thick rubber sole or just flip flops that go well with your beach costume. If flat sandals are your choice, then opt for cheerful colours such as yellow or pink and flirty embellishments that are both comfy and stylish. Ballerina flats, sneakers and other lightweight flat summer shoes can also look amazing for a beach party or a yacht ride.

  • Shade your eyes: When the sun is out, the sunglasses should be out as well. A classic pair of aviator sunglasses can up your oomph factor and notch up your look on the beach. If you are keen to try out more styles, choose from cat eyed, mirror sunglasses or metal round sunglasses to make a strong style statement.

Media Coverage: How to get the denim look right

The Tribune_March 1, 2017_Voonik_Page 04 (1).jpg

Ultra-skinny jeans paired with long slit tops and block-heeled booties or a wide leg, high-waist one teamed up with crop tops and pointed heels, denims can complement any look. You just need to find the right fit and style.

Bhavya Chawla, Chief Stylist, Voonik, a fashion app for women, suggests how:

Spot the fabric carefully: It’s time to stop wearing denims that are stretchable and have legging-like fits as we have had too much of them this winter. Instead, with the summer season approaching, pick rigid and vintage-inspired denims that can give you the old-school feel.

Go easy with  hems: Most people agree that slim-cut jeans are the hot favourite for every body type, but this season is not about restrictive ankle cuts. If you are willing to make a style impact, go for wider and breezier hems. From ultra-wide legs, cropped flares to the 1970s’ bell-bottoms and boot-cut shapes, the choices are enough to make you turn your back towards the shelves housing ankle-strangling fits.

Figure out the wash of the fabric: If easy distressing denims were your thing, it’s time to get over with them as white, ivory and sand-coloured jeans are here to stay now. Make a faded pair for yourself or go for a deeper, darker wash. You can experiment with a faded pair of jeans in shades of white, off-white, or an earthy tan hue. These neutral-coloured denims can be paired with everything in your closet, whether it is an oversized olive coloured sweater or with a crisp white shirt for a brunch.

Grab those oversized denim jackets: They can glam up any plain dress within seconds.

Dress up your denim-on-denim look: If you are someone who is crazy about denims and loves to wear a denim-on-denim style, make sure you throw in some pop colour to it or wear a simple, light coloured cotton blazer with it. Also, it will be a smart move if you avoid wearing a top and a bottom of the same shade or wash. In fact, take it as a strict no-no. Further, you must not eye those denim shoes or any other denim accessories to pair with this look.—IANS

How to flaunt off-shoulder tops stylishly!

Deccan Herald Page 3 Date 15-03-2016.jpeg

To get creative with your looks, flaunt the off-shoulder tops you were always sceptical about! Wearing strapless outfits may not be easy for everyone; however, an expert suggests certain ways of going about it.

According to Bhavya Chawla, co-founder and chief stylist Voonik, off-shoulder necklines elongate the neck and show off your collar bones. It is about celebrating the femininity of a woman, without revealing much skin. This is one style that works well for all body shapes, she says.

Here are a few suggestions made by her:

  • Triangle and hourglass body shapes can carry off this trend beautifully, as they have lovely slender shoulders. Off-shoulder outfits draw attention to the face and neck. This helps in keeping the negative attention away from the bigger stomach and heavier bust line, making it a sexy option for the round and inverted triangle body shapes.

  • Keep in mind to wear slightly firmer fabrics in prints and darker shades, rather than the flimsy, thinner ones in lighter colours.

  • With its flirty features, this trend lends a curvaceous appeal to the rectangle body shape. Off-shoulder tops that are slightly fitted can be styled with skinny pants, fitted skirts or even with the flared bottoms.

  • Loose tops should be teamed with only fitted pants or shorts. The idea is not to make it loose on the upper body as well as the lower body.

– It is extremely important to wear well fitted strapless bras with your off-shoulder tops and dresses. This is the foundation to a great outfit.

– Your neck and shoulders should be blemish-free and smooth. Wear some concealer and foundation to cover up marks, if any.

– Accessorise with delicate necklaces, big hoops or even shoulder sweeping danglers which aren’t too chunky.

– Hair can be done up in a boho inspired bun, a plait or soft curls for brunches and beaches. For slightly formal occasions, you can pull up your hair in a sleek bun or even leave it blow dried.

– Opt for gladiators or strappy wedges to complete your look.
